The sub-4 metre SUV segment continues to be one of the most competitive and fast-moving markets in India. In March 2025, total sales in this space reached 71,701 units, up by 5.21 percent from Februaryโ€™s 68,147 units. The Maruti Brezza led the charge, followed closely by the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue. While the Renault Kiger posted the highest month-on-month (MoM) growth, the Mahindra XUV 3XO saw the sharpest dip. Hereโ€™s a closer look at the performance of each model.

Leaders

The Maruti Brezza was the best-selling SUV in March with 16,546 units sold. It recorded a 7.49 percent MoM growth and held a market share of 23.07 percent. However, its market share dropped by 4.57 percent compared to the same time last year. Its six-month average sales stand at 15,713 units, showing consistent performance.

Close behind was the Tata Nexon, including the Nexon EV, with 16,366 units. It missed the top spot by just 180 units. The Nexon posted a 6.62 percent MoM growth and held a market share of 22.82 percent. Though slightly behind Brezza, it shows strong traction in both petrol and electric variants.

At number three was the Hyundai Venue, clocking 10,441 units. The Venue and Venue N Line combined saw a 3.12 percent MoM growth. It held a market share of 14.56 percent, though it saw a YoY decline of 3.62 percent in market share.

Mid-Pack Movers

The Kia Sonet sold 7,705 units, showing a modest MoM growth of 1.4 percent. But its market share fell by 5.81 percent compared to the previous year, reflecting increased competition and changing preferences.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO saw a notable fall in sales with a 10.25 percent MoM decline, the highest drop among all. It sold 7,055 units in March. Despite this dip, its YoY market share actually increased by 5.92 percent, thanks to strong performances in earlier months.

One of the biggest surprises came from the Skoda Kylaq, the brandโ€™s newest entry in the segment. It registered a sharp 46.5 percent MoM growth, selling 5,327 units. This strong performance helped Skoda grab a 7.42 percent market share in just a short span of time.

Newcomers and Underperformers

The Kia Syros, another recent launch, posted 5,015 units in March but saw a 7.55 percent decline from February. The model is yet to find strong footing in the crowded segment.

Nissan Magnite saw decent growth of 6.7 percent MoM with 2,484 units dispatched. It maintained a modest 3.46 percent market share and continues to be a steady seller for the brand.

Stealing the spotlight in terms of growth was the Renault Kiger, which posted a massive 75.98 percent MoM growthโ€”jumping from 433 units in February to 762 in March. Despite this, its YoY market share dropped slightly by 0.92 percent.
